5 Non-Negotiables for Airplane Travel: A Homeopath's and Yoga Teacher’s Guide

As a homeopath and yoga teacher - not to mention, world traveller - I've learned some essential lessons about what to pack for air travel. Here's my must-have list that will help you stay comfortable and prepared for any situation:

1. Clean Underwear - A Lesson Learned the Hard Way

Trust me on this one - always pack an extra pair in your carry-on. After experiencing food poisoning during a 10-hour flight, I can't stress this enough. I don’t think I need to go into too many specifics here, but I promise that if you’re ever in this situation, you’ll thank me! It’s much harder than you think to buy in airports should you need a fresh pair!

2. Movement and Circulation Tools

Part of the reason long flights are so awful is because of the stagnation that is caused in our body. The air pressure changes from the flight can aggravate pre-existing conditions, and the forced stillness in cramped seats can really cause discomfort and even bigger problems. The key to success? Move your body! Wiggle your toes, point and flex your foot, reach your arms over head, flex and extend your spine (think: cat/cow movements), roll your head side to side, and any other movements you can get in. I promise you, this will go a very long way for your health and comfort.

Massage balls: These are perfect for quietly relieving tension and improving circulation during long periods of sitting. You can sit on them and put them alongside your spine for some self massage throughout a flight.

Silicone cupping cups: Another excellent tool for blood circulation and managing muscle aches. Place the suction cups on tight, sore and stagnated parts to help invite blood flow into these areas.

3. Travel Wellness Essentials

Jet essence: A game-changing little botanical potion that helps your body adapt to different time zones. It’s a very simple protocol that goes a long way to help regulate your circadian rhythm.

Large water bottle and electrolytes: Staying hydrated is crucial, plus a full bladder it gives you an excuse to get up and move around.

4. Natural Remedies

Aconite 30c: Perfect way to naturally manage flight anxiety. I used to have such bad flight anxiety that I would need to take Ativan for any flight, no matter how short or long. This got me into some pretty sticky situations as a female solo-traveller as the drowsiness and side effects really affected me. Since learning about Aconite 30c, my relationship with flying has completely changed. I’d almost even say that this homeopathic remedy has cured my fear of flying! I rarely take it, but I always have it on me now when I fly. Take one pellet of Aconite 30c at the airport as you start to feel anxious, as you board, as you take off, and as needed throughout the flight.

Helios Remedy kit: A comprehensive kit that contains the solution for various travel ailments, from stomach issues to headaches, muscle aches to anxiety. Their travel kit

5. Gravol

While I typically prefer natural remedies, Gravol is my non-negotiable pharmaceutical. It's a Canadian product and a lifesaver for nausea and vomiting, and you'll be grateful to have it in your carry-on if you need it. This, and the underwear from #1, were both missing from my infamous food-poisoning flight and I will never travel without these ever again!!
